By Jorge G. Zavala | Creative Director Luka Raco, a PdM Fresh Face model and actor from Serbia (Belgrade), is turning heads in Chicago and beyond. At 23 years of age, he already has quite some honors under his belt. He was crowned Mr. Serbia in 2012 and had the privilege of representing Serbia in the Mr. International competition in Bangkok, Thailand. Luka, who's won recognitions such as "Most Stylish" and "Mr. Top 10" against 40 international candidates, has done editorials for Maxim and a wide-range of national and international magazines. Not only is Raco a fresh, note-worthy face in the male pageant world, he's also quite the sensation in runway - participating in over 40 shows. His latest endeavors include television opportunities, such as commercials for international fashion brands. Most recently, he has returned to Serbia to act in a hit television series, Sindjelici: the Serbian remake of famous Spanish series Los Serrano. Luka is playing the role of Serbian Raul, also known as "Rista".
Luka will be featured in the premier issue of PdM Magazine, which debuts this May. He is one of only 4 exclusive international fresh faces that will be a part of the #PdMModels campaign this summer. Congrats, Luka! To catch this Serbian sensation behind the scenes, keep up with us on Facebook.
Gizard's style and representation of his models and landscapes are very French in style and represent the changing trend to capture the male spirit through art. Modern Lovers is a powerful piece of artwork, perfect to start a conversation for one's dinner soirée or simply as a chic piece of photographic literature on one's teak-wood coffee table. Rumor has it that this is simply the first chapter of the state of amour that Gizard is developing. While this premier piece of French art is not currently available in North America (outside of NYC), it is available via PdM. Contact us to secure your copy as they are selling très rapide ($40).

By Carlos Ferreira | Fashion Correspondent In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, PdM will be showcasing the diversity of Latino models in and around Chicago. According to an ABC News segment on fashion models from 2012, Latinos, in particular Latin males, are highly-sought after by fashion powerhouses like Gucci, Fendi, and Marc Jacobs. Professional models make up a very small chunk of the work force. In 2008, there were 2,200 models employed by agencies, out of which 988 were of Latin origin. That number is expected to grow to 1,400 by 2018, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Most working models start their careers at age 16, but Latinas often begin at a younger age, modeling for quinceañera magazines or mom and pop business promotional materials. In short, Hispanic Heritage Month is a platform to celebrate the changing face of style, fashion, and sabor.
While the style and fashion sector has embraced Latin faces as their own, high-fashion and runway is still dominated by predominantly white faces.
Some designers, like Diane von Furstenberg, have called for more diversity, and China's growing appetite for high-fashion has resulted in more Asian models being cast for shows. However, some also see this as a kind of art form - focusing on the stereotype of exotic Asian "otherness" - and don't think it should be subject to some sort of quota system. Backstage after designer Nicole Miller's show for NNFW14, her 20 or so models were standing around, celebrating with Miller. A quarter of them were models of color. "I had five diversified girls, plus a redhead, which is the most diversity because they're very - the lowest percentage of the population is redheads," stated Miller in an email to PdM. As Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the accomplishments of the Latino community in the USA, it is important to embrace the past, actively work to become the best fashionista or style guru one can be in the present, and make the simple yet positive changes in one's industry so as to keep moving forward. Adelante. "The world doesn’t owe you anything, you owe the world something, so stop daydreaming and start doing. Develop a backbone, not a wishbone. It’s too late to sit around and wait for somebody to do something someday. Someday is now; the somebody the world needs is you." |
