Mexico City's Blaze Boy Talks about Upcoming Collaboration with Chicago Style Firm La Chambre d'Anit5/17/2013 By Domínica Rodríguez | Mexico City Correspondent Recently, we had the opportunity to meet Marco, the popular "Blaze Boy" who is known within the indie fashion circuit as a style icon, primarily for his use of grays and dark hues. Marco, 28, is both a designer and a lover of art, design, and travel. His designs, a dual collaboration between BANG! - his design firm - and La Chambre d'Anit of Chicago, are inspired by the energy of every-day-life in the capital. "It's fresh, it's a bit different from the contemporary style (in Mexico)," Marco mentioned. "So I think it will be very popular when it officially launches in July." At the age of 19, Marco left his hometown of Puebla to make Mexico City his residence. After 4 years of working 3 jobs to sustain himself and launch his boutique design firm, the famously-dubbed "Blaze Boy" is out to make both local and international connections. "Everyone called me 'Blaze Boy' for the blazers I wear, which are my own creations," Marco added gleefully. "I want to make professional connections in Mexico and with other countries because it is very important for my success." Marco's inspiration comes from both European textiles and current trends in Mexican fashion. "Most people between the ages of 16-27 dress a certain way, usually in a band T with skinny jeans if you're a naco, or in something more form-fitting with a bit of elegance if you're a fresa," he commented. "But the reality is that most people just want something comfortable that reflects their individuality." When asked about his most recent collaboration with La Chambre d'Anit, he became enamored with the idea of making fashion that is both interesting and wearable. "La Chambre d'Anit represents a very vibrant hybrid of cuts and designs that are inspired by Eastern and modern cuts. Even though the clothing line is meant for women, there is always room in fashion to bring a certain shock factor when it comes to designing the next big things." On an average day, Marco can be found in his studio making men's pieces that are comfortable and stylish. Usually found in Colonia Roma, Satelite, or Mazarik Road, he is out and about searching for inspiration coming in a wide-array of forms. "I love people-watching and observing movement: it's the driving factor behind my designs." This summer, Blaze Boy will travel throughout both Mexico and the United States to showcase some of his collection to boutiques and interested buyers.
