Witty, enthusiastic, and determined are some adjectives used to describe Marco Sanchez, a drama student at the University of Southern California. We ran into Marco in Chicago's River East neighborhood where he was attending a charity dinner at a nearby restaurant. "I believe in giving back whenever I can," Sanchez mentioned. "While I don't have the lucrative lifestyle to build orphanages in Cambodia, I do have a few bucks to spare for a good meal with great company."

Marco hopes to one day perform for Broadway productions, but in the meantime is content working at local theaters. "It's fun, I must say. It gives me the opportunity to shine."

Name: Marco Sanchez
Age: 23
Fashion Inspiration: My uncle, Gilberto. He has the craziest stack of vintage clothes - though he doesn't dare call them vintage - in his garage, and I sometimes like to go through them and borrow a sweater or a pair of slacks.
Goals: I want to be on Broadway! That, or design my own clothing. I have this crazy dream of sowing my own clothes, like Jenny Humphrey from Gossip Girl, and become a rad designer. Yes, I said "rad".
Favorite food: Empanadas: I adore the ones stuffed with cheese and spinach.
Favorite drink: I love a good glass of wine, chardonnay to be exact.
I adore Chicago because...: Because it's a big city with so many amazing things to do and see! I love the Hancock building because it has such a cool presence, and I love the shopping. My cousin lives near Streeterville, so whenever I visit I hang out with him.
California loving because...: I'm a California boy at heart. I was born in San Jose but my family moved out to Los Angeles when I was 5. The palm trees, the sea, and the sun have made me who I am. However, I would trade Southern California for Chicago, perhaps for a year or so.
What you look for in a girl: Well, most of my close friends are women and I really enjoy someone who can hold a conversation. I love a girl's personality and her sense of style. I'm a huge believer in a strong, assertive woman - except when she's yelling at me.
What you look for in a guy: Eyes, that stare that lures you in. If I can connect with a guy through his gaze, I know I can invite him out for coffee. I'm usually the more assertive one - blame the theater boy in me - so I am really fond of initiating conversation. I think I have a 76% success rate, FYI.
Bits of wisdom: Follow your goals, no matter how crazy they may seem. Sometimes, the crazier the dreams the better the idea is. However, also keep one foot on the ground and remember your friends and family who are helping you accomplish your dreams. You cannot be successful, or happy, without good company.

New York Fashion Week, Day 3

From Jill Stuart's dark florals to the visually stunning work of Christian Cota, Loden Dager's bright colours to Prabal Gurung's dark decadence, there was something for everyone on day three in New York.

On a sticky Saturday morning, with heavy rain and humidity that turned ponytails into pom poms, the Lacoste show kicked off a long weekend of celebrity sightings.

Kris Humphries, the Nets player and famous Kim Kardashian ex, made it to Lincoln Center just before the downpour started. He was dressed in a red plaid button-down, worn open, a gray T-shirt and slim jeans.

Front row was only part of the draw. Liberty Ross didn’t just step out after the Kristen Stewart scandal. She stomped down the runway modeling a cool white ensemble by the designer. Other light-colored pieces were literally glow-in-the-dark.

Luckily, the weather turned on Sunday and the fashion flock woke up to gentle breezes and crisp autumn sunshine. In women’s wear, the day picked up speed at Lincoln Center. There were lots of girl-next-door types: Lauren Conrad, Katie Lee and Shenae Grimes.

While the shows were great to follow, some of the best moments were simply focused on observing how the models prepped, the diverse food offered at nearby restaurants, and the energy everyone felt as viewers themselves  as if they were representing the catwalk.

New York Fashion Week, Day 2

In New York, the streets will make you feel brand new, these lights may inspire you. A grand city for a spectacular event with people from all over. Day 2 of New York Fashion Week consisted of Venti Americanos, Asian chicken salads, and a few glasses of champagne.

One could already make out the trends for spring 2013. For one, there are the bra/bandeau tops paired with skirts. Peter Som’s collection, for example, was quite airy with cute pastel shades, abstracted floral prints and quirky jewel embellishments. Som makes clothes for high-so girls who are at comfy both uptown and downtown.

My favorite looks were those by Jason Wu, with long tank dresses in blush tones. There was an easiness about them without looking like beach resort wear.

How many times can you reinvent the preppy look? Not enough apparently based on the ultra cool, upbeat and youthful collection by many designers. There were a lot of the typical looks of prep parties, like crest blazers and tennis sweaters and nautical stripes and seersucker.

New York, New York - the city that never sleeps. When in the Big Apple during Fashion Week, act like the New Yorkers: strut, smile, pose, repeat.

Here are a few shots of my first day in New York for NYFW. More to come soon.

Fashion's Night Out 2012 - Chicago

Fashion's Night Out is an occasion to show a little something with flair and attitude. Chicago, while not internationally known as a symbol of haute couture, is making a name for itself in the fashion world. With labels like Louis Vuitton and Michael Kors present at Chicago's night out, the affluent and stylish expected no less than a night of glamor enchanted with imported bottles of champagne, complimentary makeovers, Ali Carter, and exceptional shopping at dedicated retail shops.

New York City may have more boutiques than Chicago, but they do not have Nordstrom - where the official FNO launch party took place.

La vie n'est pas digne d'être vécue sans la mode.

Pink balloons, magenta tees, and gorgeous DJs. What's not to love about a fabulous party in Mexico City's chic Colonia Roma to welcome September and the change of seasons as we transition from heat to sweater-weather and hot cafe lattes?
