"Opera Rocks: an Unconventional Gala Concert" took place at Monastero's Ristorante and Banquets on April 7th, 2013. Produced by Miss Heart of Illinois 2013 Marisa Buchheit and emceed by Roxane Assaf and Paula Miller, this energetic and delightful event was brought to life by the Verismo Opera Theatre and given a touch of branché via Rachel Frank Designs.

Produced by Miss Heart of Illinois 2013 Marisa Buchheit and emceed by Roxane Assaf and Paula Miller, this energetic and delightful event was brought to life by the Verismo Opera Theatre and given a touch of branché via Rachel Frank Designs.
Managing Director Katherine Dalin, Artistic Director Bradley Schuller, and Paula Miller graciously welcomed attendees to their unconventional gala, which brought a vibrant crowd of opera connoisseurs, artists, fashionistas, and members of diverse media/press outlets.
Monastero's delicious offerings were enjoyed by attendees, which included vegan-style pasta, a few meat-happy dishes, fresh salads, and plenty of pan al dente.
Marisa Buchheit, in addition to gracing audiences with her powerful yet soothing voice, was also found on every table. Her endeavors, both as a soprano and as a fashion icon, are always full of esprit merveilleux.
Aaron Wardell and Marisa provided musical enchantment en grâce as guests admired the venue, caught up with old friends, and made their way to the delicious buffet.
Talented individuals were the norm on OperaRocks!, so much that they performed with such tranquility, spirit, and diligence.
It didn't take guests long to admire the vocal talent and musical delights Marisa enthusiastically performed.
Raffle tickets, sold at $2 a piece or 6 for $10, benefited both the Verismo Opera Theatre and lucky guests as the raffle was a 50/50 one. Some of the decadent prizes included hand-made jewelery by local designers and a boudoir photo-session by with lovely Verismo entourage.
Rachel Frank's designs, in addition to the vocal talent present, were the talk of the evening. Frank's outfits, which included unconventional styles for an opera soiree, gave the show un fait nouveau, which guests appeared to enjoy.

Some of the opera delights present throughout the evening included "La ci darem" by Don Giovanni, "Deh vieni, non tardar" from Le Nozze di Figaro, and "What a movie" from Trouble in Tahiti.
Throughout the evening, there were moments where guests reflected on the enchanting vocals, custom-dresses, and offerings of performers while savoring a delicious Italian-style buffet. Attendees, in addition to simply observing the magic, became actively involved by speaking directly to performers, members of the media, and directors. Cheers to Marisa Buchheit for producing a wonderful evening, bravo to the Verismo Opera Theatre, and molte grazie to Monastero's and friends for the delish fiesta italiana.
