Glocal is a relatively new term that developed within the last few years. Scholars have defined it as “internalized globalization.” Glocal was founded on the principles of furthering the status quo of social development, spreading democracy, and balancing the demands of the global market with the needs of local communities.
In a glocal society, local markets actively participate in the global economy. Many cities strive to glocalize themselves in hopes of increasing their influence in international affairs. In a smaller scale, being glocal provides local communities with the access to global resources. Residents are encouraged to partake in the drafting of sustainable policies for global and local business affairs and acting in socially-responsible manners.
What does it mean to be a glocally-run business?
Services and/or products provided by socially responsible business that are developed and circulated internationally, but catered towards the local consumer. This may consist of altering and catering products to fit local laws and traditions.
